This is a rare specialized clinic for prenatal care located on the 47th floor of the former Makuhari Prince Hotel, designed by Kenzo Tange. The existing layout consisted of linear spaces with 600-square columns arranged at short spans of 3 meters, which did not match the requirements of the facility’s program. Additionally, handling the exceptional views, natural light, and the relationship with the sea were crucial design considerations. After considering several plans, it was decided to utilize white curved walls to control the distance from the exterior while segmenting the rigid columns, creating a soft and enveloping space for patients. Furthermore, considering the predetermined sequence in which patients navigate the facility, a sequence was designed to allow for various spatial experiences while taking into account their psychological state.
The first phase of construction has been completed, and there are plans for future expansion to encompass the entire floor.
