The project involves renovating a building located within the national park in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. The renovation will transform the existing establishment into a new retail shop and café.

Regarding the existing building, it is a mixed structure consisting of a 50-year-old reinforced concrete (RC) construction and a 30-year-old steel (S) construction, with separate sections for the north and south areas. Due to the structural differences, the ceiling heights vary in each area, and the spaces are divided by partitions. The approach is to highlight the unique characteristics of each area.

Aiming for a new landscape in Naruto, the design incorporates the essence of Tokushima into the space, showcasing it as a gateway to Tokushima and attracting tourists. The goal is to revitalize this location, establish it as a new landmark, and create a place where people can enjoy tourism. Specifically, the ceiling of the café area will be pierced, and the space behind it will be dyed in indigo blue, creating a distinctive feature for the shop. Additionally, new lighting designs inspired by the straw hats used in the Awa Odori dance will be incorporated into the café and retail areas, creating a lively atmosphere in the park and serving as an eye-catching feature for the shop. The seating area will offer views of the surrounding greenery and the Naruto Bridge, taking advantage of the open and airy location. The shop will feature fixtures made from indigo-dyed Awa Washi paper, creating a softer division between the café zone and the retail area.

The hope is that this place will once again become bustling with tourists.
